چکیده

The injection of antigen into the center of the avascular cornea of homologously sensitized animals induced a ring of opacification between the center of the cornea and the limbus. This ring of opacification was composed of a line of deeply eosinophilic amorphous material in a matrix of swollen collagen fibers, palisaded by polymorphonuclear leucocytes. By use of fluor-tagged antigen, it was shown that the line of damage in the cornea coincided with the precipitation of antigen presumably by antibody entering the cornea from the limbal vessels. With the passage of time, the antigen-antibody precipitates were removed, at least in part by phagocytosis, and the ring of opacification was replaced by ingrowing blood vessels surrounded by plasma cells. Treatment of sensitized animals with nitrogen mustard showed that antigen-antibody interaction could injure the corneal stroma in the relative absence of polymorphonuclear leucocytes.

Characterization of a novel human corneal endothelial antigen.

The antigenic composition of the human corneal endothelium, a cellular layer essential for maintaining corneal function, has not been well characterized. A novel corneal endothelial antigen was identified by generating a monoclonal antibody (MAb) against normal human corneal endothelial cells. This MAb, designated 2B4.14.1, reacted strongly by immunoperoxidase staining with the endothelium of c...

The Application of Fluorescent Antihody Methods to the Study of Platelets

By ROBERT Siu KE, ROBERTO BENITEZ, WARREN C. EVELAND, JOSEPH H. AKEROYD AND CHARLES J. DUNNE C HEMICAL LINKAGE of fluorescent dyes with antibody allows histologic detection of antigen-antibody reactions. This technic, originally developed by Coons, has been extensively employed to localize the antigens of and antibodies to such diverse substances as bacterial products, viruses, blood group subs...

AI.I.ERGIC INFLAMMATION III. THE F n ~ STRUCTURE OF COLLAGEN FIBRILS AT SITES O~ ANTIGEN-ANTIBODY INTERACTION IN ARTHUS-TYPE LESIONS* BY HENRY

For many years it has been debated whether there is any alteration of the collagen fibers at the site of antigen-antibody interaction in allergic inflammation of the Arthus type. Some claimed that there is eosinophilic swelling, fragmentation, and disintegration of the collagen fibers. Others maintained that a protein material is deposited between the apparently unaltered fibers. The investigat...

FasL-Fas interactions regulate neovascularization in the cornea.

PURPOSE Neovascularization of the avascular cornea is a significant problem associated with many corneal diseases. Because Fas ligand (FasL) is highly expressed in the cornea, the role of this molecule in controlling corneal neovascularization was examined in this study. METHODS C57BL/6(B6), FasL (CD95L)-deficient B6-gld, and Fas (CD95)-deficient B6-lpr mice were subjected to the suture model...

Production and Characterization of a Monoclonal Antibody against an Antigen on the Surface of Non-Small Cell Carcinoma of the Lung

Background: Lung carcinoma is a multiple type cancer comprising of small cell and non-small cell carcinomas (NSCLC). For therapeutic and diagnostic purposes, serum monoclonal antibodies have been produced against lung cancer. Objective: To charac-terize a murine monoclonal antibody (ME3D11) reactive with human NSCLC. Methods: A murine monoclonal antibody (ME3D11) reactive with human NSCLC was s...
